EWE Studio present a new series of lighting installations inspired and named after the Nebulas, interstellar clouds of gas and dust which are the origin of stars. Each of these floating modules is made using a recent technique explored by the studio called caged glass, also known as encased or imprisoned glass, in which molten glass is blown within a metal shape, and the bubble finds its way around the openings of the rigid silhouettes that conditions the expression and direction of it.
The striking combination of these materials, together with a sophisticated lighting system, seeks to capture—through a new medium—the ethereal beauty of nebular gases and the vast emptiness of outer space.
Designed by EWE Studio, the Nebulas were later produced in collaboration with Nouvel Studio, one of Mexico’s leading glassblowing workshops, Nebula reflects EWE’s commitment to working alongside master artisans to push material experimentation within a contemporary context.
