MASA presented Substract, a collaborative exhibition with Grupo Arca held alongside Art Basel/Design Miami 2021.
Housed within a façade designed by Superflex in collaboration with Héctor Esrawe, Arca Wynwood offered a design center with a gallery-like atmosphere conceived by Esrawe Studio. As a leading supplier of natural stone and a frequent collaborator with architects, artists, and designers, Arca commissioned new works from Mexican and Mexico-based artists using its marble.
Substract marked MASA Galería’s first international exhibition, centered on the act of subtracting raw material as the starting point for creation. The show explored a range of technical approaches—from robotic automation to traditional craftsmanship—to produce functional objects that retained strong sculptural and aesthetic presence.
The exhibition featured stone works by Adeline de Monseignat, Brian Thoreen, EWE Studio, and Mario García Torres. Alongside MASA’s presentation, Arca also hosted exhibitions by Stefan Brüggemann (Hauser & Wirth), as well as Gabriel Rico and Jorge Méndez Blake (OMR).
