Objective Gallery Shanghai presented “Todo lo Más (Needless to say)”, an exhibition that explored the role of natural materials and craftsmanship in contemporary functional art and collectible design. On view from July 28 to September 25, the show marked the gallery’s first exhibition following the lockdown, turning attention toward nature and reconsidering the place of design in everyday life. Through works that embraced raw, unadorned materials, the exhibition reflected on whether a return to elemental qualities could respond to a contemporary desire for authenticity.
Featuring works by Héctor Esrawe, Manu Bañó, EWE Studio, and Batten and Kamp, the exhibition brought together diverse approaches to material and craft. Using brass, marble, granite, and hand-crafted glass, the pieces highlighted both the passage of time and local traditions, while embracing irregularity and process as poetic elements. The curatorial display evoked a Mexican industrial setting through handmade platforms of ceramic tiles and bricks, integrating visual references to Latin American culture. Rather than a nostalgic gesture, the exhibition proposed a renewed exploration of material, history, and form.
