EWE’s Magma at the Denver Art Museum

07 March, 2024

Magma is a lighting fixture inspired by the shapes of lava. It pays homage to Mexico’s rugged and ever-changing terrain, particularly to its volcanic origins.

The studio’s interest to understand Mexico as a territory with a unique geological complexity led the studio to study the nature of the volcanoes closely, thus inspiring the shape of the bubbles that compose the lamp and reinterpreting these into new mediums.

Moreover, our Small Black Magma is currently on view in the ongoing exhibition “By Design: Stories and Ideas Behind Objects” at the Denver Art Museum!

A series of thematic presentations drawn from the museum’s collections. by Design illustrates the abundance and versatility of approaches to design. This particular installation showcases acquisitions of contemporary design from Mexico, and the multifaceted approaches that contribute to the country’s unique visual expression.

We extend our gratitude to Jorge Rivas, Frederick and Jan Mayer Curator of Latin American Art, and Darrin Alfred, Curator of Architecture and Design, as well as the rest of the museum’s team for their invaluable support.

We hope you are able to visit the By Design exhibit, now on view at the Denver Art Museum.

With love,

EWE
