The Hands Behind our Process

At EWE Studio, our work is built through close collaboration with workshops and artisans whose knowledge has been shaped over generations. Across stone, foundry, glass, metal, and wood, each process is guided by skilled hands that bring depth and precision to every piece. Through this shared practice, we are able to create works that carry a distinct material language and a strong sense of identity.

STONE

At EWE Studio, we proudly work hand in hand with workshops and artisans who have been masters of their craft for generations. Among them is Fernando, whose deep understanding of stone and process reflects the mastery behind each piece. The fundamental tools involved in carving—mallets, chisels and drills—remain the foundation of the process behind our pieces, and the raw character provided by our materials, whether onyx, marble, or volcanic stone, is central to EWE’s approach. Each of our pieces is completely unique; we embrace our intuition and accidents as part of the natural process of our work.

FOUNDRY

One of our main processes—and a technique we have been increasingly exploring—is casting. We work closely with a couple of foundry workshops, continuously refining our methods alongside them. Displayed here is the workshop with which we produced all the pieces from our most recent collection, Exhuma—a workshop that specializes in a detail-oriented process, resulting in truly unique pieces.

GLASS

Our glass pieces are developed in close collaboration with Nouvel Glass, one of Mexico’s leading glassblowing workshops. The technology of glassmaking and its adaptations emerged in Mexico starting in the late 16th century. Glass needs to be melted at over 1600 °C and then hand-blown into molds made of steel or volcanic stone, materials that can withstand such temperatures. This results in glass pieces that replicate the shapes and textures of other materials. There are many variants to explore with this raw material: thicknesses, shapes, textures, colors, and finishes. At EWE Studio, we are interested in experimenting with different processes to discover the new limits to which glass can be pushed.

METAL

The manipulation of metal has long been one of our core processes within EWE Studio. Transforming metal through the use of tools is part of a pre-Hispanic legacy passed down by master artisans across generations. Alongside Pablo and Humberto, we cut, weld, and forge raw material into contemporary pieces with exceptional precision.

WOOD

Wood carving was one of the first techniques mastered by humankind, enabling the creation of tools that have endured to this day. At EWE Studio, we are interested in experimenting with this process because of the expressiveness that gouges, chisels, axes, and chainsaws leave imprinted on the material. In collaboration with Macario, we rediscover one of the oldest processes in history, reinterpreting it to create objects that speak to the present.

Working alongside artisans remains central to our practice. The exchange of knowledge and skill makes each piece possible.

With love,

EWE
