EWE STUDIO | Magma Lighting Sculptures

EWE’s Magma Lighting Fixtures are part of the Alquimia Collection, which draws inspiration from the ancient art of alchemy and the transformative power of fire.

This collection aims to blend various materials and the expertise of different craft workshops. In this case, EWE combines glass and metal to craft a series of lamps that provide an atmospheric lighting source and a subtle ambience in any space.

These molds are meticulously carved by local stonemasons, using chisels and hammers, resulting in distinctive marks and scars on the inner surfaces. Consequently, when the glass bubbles are blown into these molds, they replicate the rough and porous texture of the volcanic stone.

Glass is made from raw materials such as sand and silica, which melt at extremely high temperatures, creating a viscous material similar to lava. The bubbles are carefully blown into the molds. The volcanic stone, known as ‘recinto’, was selected for its excellent heat resistance properties, making it ideal for blowing glass.

Produced in partnership with Nouvel Glass, a renowned glass manufacturer in Mexico City, these lamps offer an atmospheric lighting source and subtle ambience, transforming any space into a captivating environment.

The collection consists of 21 bubbles, offering a range of variations and configurations that can be mounted on walls, floors, or ceilings. The Magma are produced in partnership with Nouvel, a glass manufacturer based in Mexico City.

The careful combination of materials—blown glass and textured metal—creates an extraordinary, almost alchemical, lighting experience.
