EWE is pleased to present Aura, our new lightning fixture that continues the exploration around religious elements, objects, and places of worship in our culture. Aura is built out of four crescent geometric shapes, which resemble the arc of both altars and churches from the colonial times.

All four translucent cupules are hand-carved out of white onyx stone found in Puebla. The white veiny gemstone is full of swirls and natural patterns unique to this mineral, which sits in offset on top of red volcanic stone, Tezontle. Tezontle has been used in Mexico since prehispanic times for the construction of pyramids and temples. Aura’s light hides inside of this earthy stone, it is directed upwards between the four layers of onyx, creating an aura-like halo around the structures.
